Hi everyone! How was your Memorial Day weekend? Did you do anything fun? Mine was nice and relaxing. I went to a Barbeque on Saturday, went biking on the Monon on Sunday, and relaxed yesterday. Three day weekends are great!

So, for those of you who drive cars and pay for your own gas, I'm sure you've been frustrated lately! I know I have been. My husband and I pay between $250 to $300 each month just on gas! We have smaller cars, so I can imagine how frustrated SUV drivers are!
I found a few websites regarding gas prices and driving "green" that are pretty interesting:

FAQs about gas prices - resources regarding the rise of gas prices

Mrs. Keeler,

I had an exciting, thrilling Memorial Day weekend. I have missed the last few blogs due to the fact that I was having too much fun enjoying the somewhat nice weather! Also, the staff at the FORUM Fishers Branch said that there was no Youth Week when you said on the blog that it was. I found that to be a bit suspicious. Well, gas prices have majorly affected my parents' finances. Now it costs up to $500 JUST FOR GAS for us to take a relaxing
round-trip vacation!!! I checked out the websites you listed, and found it interesting that on some there were actual informative maps that told you where the best prices were.

Kate, congratulations on all your wins! Unfortunately, I didn't comment on your blog.

California does seem to have a higher gas tax. According to a Tax Foundation document dated January 1, 2008, California has a 7.25% sales tax and a $0.455 gas tax per gallon. For Nevada, they have a sales tax of 6.5% and a $0.325 gas tax per gallon. I don't think that would make the gas 30-40c cheaper per gallon in Nevada though. Does anyone know other contributors that go into the price of gas?

That is very strange about the Fishers branch. Did you go in there between April 21-25?

Gas prices have affected my family in several of different ways. Obviously, money-wise we're cutting things out of our budget (we don't eat out much anymore, don't go on scenic drives, etc). Also, we carpool more. All of my siblings are really into soccer, and one of my sister refs. So, instead of just driving out there for one sibling's game and then coming back, everyone stays the whole time, so that we're making as few trips as possible.

What I thought was really interesting was on the gas buddy page, California (no surprise there) had the highest prices, but then immediately past the border, gas was 30-40c cheaper in Nevada! Does California have a really high gas tax?
