Do you know about Indiana’s Cash for Appliances?

Monday, 15 March 2010 14:59 by Jacki

There was a huge buzz surrounding the Government’s Cash for Clunkers program, but not as much has been said about the new Cash for Appliances program.  Each state has a different set of criteria for what equipment qualifies for the program, so there can be some confusion.  Here is more information about Indiana’s program.

Indiana received $6.1 million in stimulus funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). This allows homeowners to receive rebates on the purchase of new ENERGY STAR® qualified heating and cooling systems.

The program began February 1, 2010 and will continue until all of the funds are depleted.

Equipment Eligible for Rebates*
Gas Furnace                            $300
Gas Boiler                                $500
Air Conditioner                          $150
Air Source Heat Pump               $500
Ground Source Heat Pump        $1,000

The vendor who you purchase the equipment from will be responsible for the disposal of the old unit.  Visit www.inenergyefficiency.com for more information on requirements and qualifying appliances.

* Eligible equipment must replace existing equipment in an Indiana owner-occupied residence and must meet ENERGY STAR eligibility criteria as of the date of purchase. Gas furnaces must have an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating of 92 percent or greater. Visit energystar.gov for details.
